Last Friday I gave a presentation on "Application Programming Multipataforma Gtk + on Linux "on the 3rd Meeting of Open Source and New Technologies held at the Central University.

What Is The Biggest Shoes Size Ever Found

Well, for all and should be known the news, Sun decided to release Java source.

I noticed several significant things:

• The license GPL Classpath more exceptions, which allow certain files can be linked in non-GPL. Classpath is the implementation of the Java library used in almost every open source Java projects so far, does use the same license code that can move between projects without problems.
• The degree of preparation for the announcement, there are even videos of Richard Stallman on the Sun site.
• now available subversion repository with the sources.

In general, very good news. Of course, lack enough yet to have Sun Java GPL distributions as new code was released HotSpot (JIT engine) and javac (the compiler). Next year will be completed with the library.

In my opinion, a triumph for the free software community, and especially for those who worked so long in a free Java (with projects like Kaffe, Classpath, Cacao, jamvm, sablevm, GCJ, etc.). Notable

now that the existing free Java are able to run many Java applications (Classpath 99.9% have implemented an API for Java 1.4 and 95% of the API of Java 1.5) Sun finally released once their own platform.

GPL Java Java in mobile phones My first Notebook

Some time ago I held a cell phone with the ability to run Java applications on a Siemens A65. This obviously made me tempted to figure out how to program for a device like this.

Well, obviously the platform MIDP - Mobile Information Device Profile, is far more limited than a standard PC, but it's amazing what a little cell phone can do.

And the grace to have such language, and a relatively standardized platform, is all the documentation and ease of programming to the API.

After much time window shopping options, I bought a notebook.

Acer Aspire 3623NWXCi is a basically a relatively small notebook with a Celeron-M 1.5GHz, screen 14 " 1280x800 (wide), wireless, 40GB drive, combo DVD / CD recorder and 256MB RAM.

All this by 378 in Tecnostore lucas. And of course, no windows!.

The notebook runs Ubuntu (using the beta version 6.06) very good, everything works without any tricks. Of course, if you want to install with only 256Mb of ram, I recommend not using the live-CD, because the installation process is much slower. Since

how well it turned out, I decided to write a small review of the computer, if anyone is also interested. First Impressions

The notebook comes in a box small enough, the first photo the sample with a CD below to compare the size, and the second may be inside when opened. The whole box weighs 3.9kg.

The notebook comes with 256MB of RAM preinstalled on a So-DIMM DDR2 in the first memory slot, with a second slot available for expansion. There is also a model with 512 already installed, but it comes with two slots filled, so it is difficult to install additional memory.

In my case, I bought an additional 512Mb of 37 lucas (in PCFactory), so that the computer started to have 768MB of RAM, enough for my needs.
